FOR STUDENT AND QUALIFIED PILOTS

What’s stopping you flying at your best?

You can know what to do and still find that pressure changes how you think, move and respond.

My work helps you understand what’s happening in you, and how that can start changing your flying.

WHEN THE PRESSURE BUILDS

You’ve done the training.
Something still changes.

You’re on your way to a lesson, already thinking about not getting it wrong. Or you’re rereading the same page because all you can think about is failing the exam.

In the aircraft, you might grip harder, hesitate over something you know, or keep thinking about a mistake while you’re trying to deal with what’s happening next.

Those things can affect how you use the skills you’ve been learning. Looking at the result alone doesn’t always explain what happened.

What changed in you?

THE FLYING PHYSIO

What changed in you
before your flying changed?

How you think, what you expect and the way your body responds can affect the flying you actually do. I look at those things together.

Before looking only at the result, I want to understand what happened in you. Did your grip change? Did you become fixed on one thing? What did you start expecting to happen next?

That gives us somewhere to look when a flight hasn’t felt right, or when you can’t use what you know in the way you normally would.

HELLO, I’M ALEXANDRA

I look at the person
doing the flying.

I was born with a rare vascular condition called Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome in my left leg. After surgery at 13, I was told I would never run or have normal function in my leg.

For ten years, I let that belief rule what I thought I could do, until I began to challenge it. I learnt to walk and run again and went on to complete the Marathon des Sables and race at two Ironman 70.3 World Championships.

That experience is where The Flying Physio started. It’s why I look at how we come to believe what we can and can’t do, and how those beliefs affect our actions.

I’m a chartered physio, an elite triathlete and a student helicopter pilot. Through The Flying Physio, I help pilots understand how their thoughts, beliefs and what’s happening in their body can affect their flying, especially when fear of failure or self-doubt gets in the way.

Now I’m bringing that perspective into human performance training for pilots.

01Understand human performanceThe brain, body and the way you perform

Human performance, the nervous system and the brain’s role in attention, decisions and movement. Explore the difference between performance and outcome, and how pressure can affect your ability to use what you know.

02Recognise what changes in youFear of failure, confidence and expectations

Look at mindset, fear of failure, self-doubt and performance anxiety. Understand how expectations and past experiences can affect your response, including what changes physically as pressure builds.

03See the effect on your flyingAttention, decisions and physical performance

Explore attention, overthinking and self-talk, hesitation and rushing, decision-making, tension and fine motor control. Look at what can happen after a mistake and how it affects what you do next.

04Build your performance planPreparation, practice and debriefing

Bring together visualisation, goal setting, attention strategies, self-talk, physical preparation and debriefing to create a simple personal performance plan.

THE FLYING PHYSIO COMMUNITY

There’s more to talk about
after the lesson ends.

Sometimes it’s the question you didn’t ask your instructor. Or the flight you keep going over because something didn’t feel right.

I’m building a community for pilots who want to understand that side of their performance and keep learning together.
